Event cancelled due to high water on the Des Moines River!
Join us as we canoe and geocache down the Des Moines River. We’ll start at Harriet Street and paddle down to Yellow Banks Park for a total of 10.25 miles. Geocaches will be hidden along the river and at Yellow Banks Park for you to find. Previous paddling experience is required. GPS units will be available for check-out. Bring food and drink.
Tentative Schedule:
7:30 a.m. – Arrival, welcome, and download coordinates at Yellow Banks
8:00 a.m. – Load shuttle van to Harriet Street
8:30 a.m. – Arrive at Harriet St. boat ramp and launch canoes
9:00 a.m. – Everyone is on the river
2-3:00 p.m. – Arrive back at Yellow Banks
3:00 p.m. – Geocaching and socializing
4:00 p.m. – Wrap up
A limited number of canoes are available from Polk County Conservation for $10/person. Register online for a spot in a canoe. You are welcome to join us if you have your own canoe or kayak, email Heidi at heidi.anderson@polkcountyiowa.gov to register. If you plan on using your own boat, you are responsible for transporting yourself and your boat to and from the take out points.
Fee: $10/person for canoe registration. FREE if you bring your own canoe or kayak. Minimum age is 10. Canoe registration deadline is July 2.
