O.W.L.S (Older, Wiser, Livelier, Seniors)

Looking for an excuse to get out of the house, make some new friends, enjoy a good meal and learn about the exciting world of nature? Then join us!

These programs will be held the first Tuesday of each month. The nature program will start at 11:00 a.m. at the Jester Park Lodge (Maps & Park Information). An optional luncheon follows the program at noon.

American Dreamer
The Life and Times of Henry A. Wallace

11:00 a.m.
In this one-act play actor Tom Milligan portrays Henry A. Wallace, the agricultural innovator and founder of Pioneer Hi-Bred seed corn company who became U.S. Secretary of Agriculture and later Vice President under Franklin Roosevelt. He was admired by many and later branded as a Socialist during his controversial 1948 campaign for the presidency. This program is sponsored by Humanities of Iowa and the National Endowment for the Humanities. Luncheon registration is May 30.

A Tour of Ecuador

11:00 a.m.
Keith and Janice Wiggers spent two months traveling around Ecuador. Their video focuses mainly on wildlife and shows some very colorful birds and butterflies and monkeys. The video has been shown in the major cities of Ecuador for the promotion of the Spanish version of the excellent Field Guide to the Birds of Ecuador. Luncheon registration is June 27.

A Look at Iowa’s Beauty

Ty Smedes, a local nature photographer will share with us two wonderful programs set to the Music of Mannheim SteamRoller. “An Eagle Ballet” is mostly Bald Eagles in-flight, twisting, turning, diving...and catching fish all of which were taken in Iowa. The second show is “Things Worth Saving”, it includes pictures of prairie wildflowers and Iowa animals. Luncheon registration is August 1.
